Facebook is a great tool to find a job. Facebook is the most widely used social network and is a great place place to reach out and network, but also to search for jobs that may not be posted anywhere else. Here are some tips for finding a job via Facebook:

  1. Keep your profile up to date and relevant
Your Facebook profile is the representation of you on the site. Everyone you are connected to is able to see everything you write about yourself and what you post in your status updates. Always keep in mind how this reflects on you as a person and whether your connections would want to recommend you for employment at their companies or with other people they know. Always keep the information on your Facebook up to date and don't post anything that you would not want a potential employer to see. Put your best foot forward and always strive to make a good impression.

  2. Post in your status updates that you are looking for new employment
If you are still employed do not be posting on a public site where other people will see that you are looking for another job and where that information could be communicated to your coworkers or your employer. If you are unemployed, posting what you are looking for employment and asking for any referrals or information from your other contacts could result in recommendations to positions you did not know were available.

  3. Reach our to your contacts
If you know someone who works at a company that you are interested in applying at then contact that person and ask if they know anything about the open position. They may offer to put in a positive word for you with their employer if they know the person who is doing the hiring. Besides referrals your contacts will be able to give you invaluable insight into the company and how they are as an employer.

  4. Interact in groups
There are tonnes of groups on Facebook that focus on companies, industries and positions. Get involved in groups that are relevant to your desired employment and network with these people for positions they know that may be available.

  5. Research, follow and message companies you may be interested in
Search out positions you want and companies you want to work for. Many companies post job opportunities on their websites and social media accounts before those positions are posted to external job boards. This is a great way to get ahead of the competition. Keep checking back and following these companies and stay up to date on what they have going on.

Looking for a new job can be a daunting task so use all the tools at your disposal and don't forget about social media!
